I love my Paprika Patterns Jasper Hoodie – can you tell!
My Super Snuggly Jasper Hoodie
The moment I saw this photo on the Paprika Patterns website I knew I had to make it. I mean, come on, it’s an asymmetric hoodie with princess seams and a pocket which goes all the way through! It was love at first sight.

I bought the PDF pattern immediately and then tried to find some suitable fabric to make it in. Finding fabric was the hardest part of the whole process! The only colours I found online were so boring, I knew I’d never wear them. So off I went to my local Fabricland Shop but still didn’t find any sweatshirt fabrics I liked. However, I fleetingly glanced at the fleece fabrics on my way out and thought, aha! I could try making it with fleece to at least check the fit. So after agonising over which colour to buy, I finally settled on the turquoise blue.
The turquoise blue goes well with my red hair don’t you think?
I wasn’t sure which size to make. Lisa has drafted the pattern using two basic blocks so it will fit a larger range of sizes, which is great. But if I followed the guide to selecting which size to use, I would end up with a size drafted for a B cup, which I’m most definitely not. I decided to just make that size anyway, and after measuring the pattern, it seemed to confirm that it would be fine. Luckily, it fits beautifully with no adjustments!

I have to say a few words about the pattern and instructions. This was only the second garment I’ve made from an independent pattern company. The first one was very well drafted and so was this one – all the pieces matched together perfectly and there were only the pattern markings and notches you actually need. (I hate marking my pattern pieces. After it’s cut out I want to sew it, not mess around putting dots on and cutting notches!)
Plus, the sleeves were actually long enough for my gibbon arms! Hoorah!
The instructions are brilliant too. In fact, Lisa has provided well photographed step by step tutorials on her website for two of the trickier parts, sewing the welt pockets and the hood.
I love the all-the-way-through pocket!
Making it in fleece has meant it is super warm and snuggly. It’s by far my favourite thing to wear when it’s cold.
Not going to be cold this winter!
I’m definitely going to make this pattern again, I might even make the dress version as well.
Er, I do have a little confession to make – I haven’t finished this hoodie! I’ve got some fab buttons to sew onto it, but I’m not sure it needs the buttons – they are just for decoration anyway.
Also, I haven’t finished the seams around the inside edge of the hood. You see I needed to go outside when I got it to this stage, so I wore it out and loved it so much, that was it, it was finished in my eyes! I really don’t think anyone else is going to notice, and actually, I really don’t care!

And just in case anyone is interested, I’ve been doing well with my Couch to 5K quest. I’ve almost finished week 3 and am enjoying it, much to my surprise! I now have the urge to sew running tops and leggings in fabulously bright fabrics!
