As you may know, I entered the Vintage Section of the Simplicity Sewing Challenge last year. You may not know however, that I won it!
I was very, very surprised! There were so many fabulous entries that I thought my top didn’t stand a chance. Some clever people had turned the top into a dress and others had used absolutely gorgeous fabrics with lovely trims, including ric-rac – my favourite!
Winning was enough of a reward for me, I even forgot there were prizes! A years worth of sewing patterns, which equates to 12 patterns, 1 per month. There was a also a bag of trims and other goodies. Plus, I was invited to write a guest post on the Simplicity blog. I was also sent a badge which I was proudly displaying on my blog . . . until I moved my blog . . .
I had such fun choosing my 12 patterns, especially since Simplicity had just released 12 new vintage reproduction patterns! I could choose from Simplicity, New Look and Burda and my short list started with around 60 patterns!
Gradually, I narrowed down my choices and I think I ended up with quite a good mixture of vintage, modern, tops, skirts, dresses, outerwear and beachwear!
Please excuse the rubbish photo – I just couldn’t get decent light that day!
So I ended up with 6 vintage reproduction or vintage style patterns in a variety of garment types.
Here is a clearer view of my patterns:
- clicking on the pattern name will open the patternreview.com page for that pattern in a new tab
I’ve made a toile of the Simplicity 1254 coat, and it looks very nice. But when the weather got warmer, I just didn’t fancy working on it any more, but I’ll be back onto it soon.
Right, I’m going to finish this blog post now so I can start working on my entry for this year’s Simplicity Challenge!
