I stumbled across this pattern and it looked like it would be comfortable to wear and quite flattering all at the same time. I was right!
It's the Pleiades 1 dress by French Poetry and according to the pattern designer, comfort and style were the important factors with this design.
There's actually a Pleiades 2 dress pattern as well which is quite similar, but in the end I chose number 1 because of the option of a cute sleeve tie detail.
I think I actually made a bigger size than I needed to, as I can put the dress on without using the back zip at all. But it's not a problem, and I'd make the same size again and just omit the zip.
So let's move on to the fabric. I loved the optional frill around the bottom on the pattern and thought it would be perfect for this border fabric I bought a whole load of in a sale at Spotlight. Yes, it's a border print - the frill is made from the border and the rest of the dress is made from the non-border part of the fabric. The designs are quite different from each other! In hindsight, I maybe should have made the sleeve ties in the border print as well.
It's a lovely, drapey viscose and even though it's a summer dress, I've worn it with leggings and boots in cooler weather and I feel dressed up but still comfortable.
I like the photo above, however the facing rolling to the outside annoys me. I'm not sure if it normally does this when I'm wearing it.
I'll leave you with a couple of action shots of me doing a twirl 😁
Yes, this dress makes me feel like a little girl, and I love it!
