The Skirt That Hurts Your Eyes

The Skirt That Hurts Your Eyes

11 June 2016

I kind of like this skirt but don’t like it all at the same time!  Meet the Skirt That Hurts Your Eyes!

Wrap skirt in red and green fabric

Look at the skirt . . . no, look at the glasses . . . no, look at the skirt . . .

So this is an accidentally modified version of KwikSew 3951 made in a very funky, but hard to look at fabric.  The reds and greens do funny things to your eyes, even if you aren’t red/green colour blind!

The quirky wrap skirt

I got the fabric from Lee Mills fabric shop in Swansea and I do highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area, it’s usually quite an entertaining shopping experience, especially if the owner, ‘Mad Mike’, is there!  (And even more so if you let it slip that you’re a bellydancer! )

So this is what the skirt was supposed to look like per the pattern:

It’s shorter mainly because I borrowed the pattern and didn’t realise it had been cut at the lengthen/shorten line.  But actually, if I’d thought about it, I probably would have wanted to shorten it anyway, so it turned out alright after all.

Wrap-over level

Wrap-over level . . .

and the wrap-over crooked

. . . and the wrap-over crooked

Now the other thing you’ll notice is that I don’t have the waistband of the wrap-over panel level with the rest of the waistband.  I just didn’t like the way it sat on me when it was level – it seemed to over-emphasise my tummy.  So I messed around with it and decided to make it crooked.  Got to be a little “quirky” at times!

I know I’m standing at an odd angle, but it sticks out at the side even if I do stand straight.

The thing that annoys me about this skirt is that I cut out my size according to the body measurements and just forged ahead.  I thought, “It’s a wrap-over skirt for heaven’s sake, it won’t need any fitting!”  Wrong!  It’s too big.  It sort of sticks out at the sides and the back doesn’t really fit right.  Anyway, I figure that most people won’t be able to look at it for too long so they’ll never notice the fitting issues!  Except I’ve now pointed that out, ah, right . . .

Love that button!

Love that button!

Not a lot else to say, except I love the groovy button I found on ebay and I hate sewing buttonholes in many layers of thick fabric.

What pattern matching???

What pattern matching???

Oh, and pattern matching . . . I obviously don’t do it!  In fact I’d never heard of it and didn’t know it was a “thing” until I watched the first series of the Great British Sewing Bee! And I’m really not that bothered to be honest.  Is that naughty of me?

Enjoy some photos taken by my talented hubby!  And do I get a thumbs up for my sunglasses?  I thought they went with this skirt perfectly!

Do you like my sunglasses?

I can’t believe Stuart managed to take so many nice photos of me because I’m usually so NOT photogenic!
